ANNUAL BULL SALE Tuesday 17th August 2010

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend our Annual Bull Sale which is to be held on Tuesday 17th August 2010 at our Sales Complex, “Under Wycombe” 330 Fosterton Road, Dungog.
We will be offering a quality line-up of 55 performance recorded bulls consisting of 45 rising 2 year old bulls and a small group of outstanding yearling bulls. We believe this is the soundest group of bulls we have ever offered for sale. They will present in great order. Having enjoyed a reasonable summer, they have been grazing on oats and ryegrass at “Melbee” since mid April. Please note that no bull in the sale has been fed any grain or had their feet trimmed.
The bulls on offer present some of the most popular Angus genetics available including sons of ARDROSSAN ADMIRAL A2, GARDENS HIGHMARK, MYTTY IN FOCUS, BANDO 0699 and BANQUET BUNDY B2
A feature of the draft is an outstanding line up of bulls by our resident herd sire, BANQUET ABODE A005. From one of the leading herds in the country and the top priced bull at the 2007 Banquet Sale. His sons excel in length, thickness, muscling and fleshing ability. Everyone who has inspected this year’s offering has been particularly impressed with the Abode sons, ranking them above the bulls by the high profile AI sires.
As a proven sire, he is a trait leader for 200, 400 and 600 day weights with a 600 day weight EBV of +128 and a Long Fed/CAAB index of +$106 and his figures continue to improve as more progeny are analysed. For a high growth rate bull, he is very easy calving and we have never pulled a calf by him. We are extremely pleased with his progeny and strongly recommend them.
We believe that this year’s draft contains a range of bulls that will suit all buyers whether they produce vealers for the local market, supermarket type yearling beef or specialise in the production of high quality feeder steers for the Japanese B3 Market. Over half the bulls in the sale would be suitable for heifer joinings.
As part of our ongoing quality control program the sale bulls have been independently assessed by Dick Whale of Independent Breeding Services; have been scanned by Roger Evans of Bovine Scanning Services and put through a breeding soundness examination by Ced Wise of Ced Wise Veterinary Services. They come with extensive pedigree and performance information (Breedplan EBVs). Weights, scrotal sizes and details on genetic conditions will be available on sale day.
Catalogues will be sent out at the end of July but in the meantime, if you would like to have a chat with Brett about what we will be offering or should you wish to arrange a pre-sale inspection, please do not hesitate to contact him on his mobile (0408 688 482).

FORRES NEBRASKA Y163

Congratulations to Tim Vincent Booragul Angus and James and Ted Laurie Knowla Angus on the continuing success they are enjoying with their outstanding sire Forres Nebraska Y163 which they bought in partnership at our Annual Sale in 2005 for our then record high of $19,000. Since then both studs have enjoyed great success with the bull’s progeny in both the show and sale rings.

The first of his progeny were offered at the Booragul Bull sale in 2008, with Booragul Black Magic B74 being the top priced bull at $8,500. In all, eleven sons of Forres Nebraska Y163 grossed $51,500 for an average $4,681 with the overall sale average being $4,425.

At the 2008 New England Angus Breeders’ Show and Sale, Knowla Angus offered five sons of Forres Nebraska Y163 to average $5,200, which included the Grand Champion and top priced bull.

At the May 2009 Booragul sale, Lot 8 Booragul Nebraska C95 was sold to the Grieve family’s Talooby Angus Stud for the equal top price of $11,000 and ten sons of Forres Nebraska Y163 went on to gross $54,000 for an average of $5,400 with the overall sale average being $5,116.

Forres Nebraska Y163 is by the highly regarded Baldridge Nebraska out of Forres Doris W1.

FORRES SCOTCHCAP Y283

Forres has enjoyed considerable success with another son of Forres Doris W1, Forres Scotchcap Y283 by Summitcrest Scotchcap OB45 who was one of the more successful bulls in our 2007 sale and who we had used as a joining sire, as a yearling, over a small group of cows in 2006.

In our 2008 Annual Sale, six sons of Forres Scotchcap Y283 sold to a top of $9,000 and averaged $5,950. Even more remarkable was that every son he produced that year made the sale grade. His daughters who are now rising 3 years of age, have just weaned their first calves and look very impressive.

Fortunately we have been able to collect semen from Forres Scotchcap Y283 and will have more progeny by him in our 2011 sale.

Weighing an impressive 934 kg, Highmark C36 will be used over a selected range of mature cows in the 500-strong Tarrawong herd.

The third bull to make $7000, Forres C201, was snapped up the The Glen Rural, Pera Station, Barraba. Buying through Pollock and Cummings, Gunnedah, representatives of the Glen Rural were active throughout the sale, taking home four bulls for an average of $5250.

Armidale agent Greg Teal put a solid floor in the market, buying five rising two-year old bulls for an average of $4000 for Saumarez Station, Armidale. Mt Teal also bought a low birth weight youngster for $2500 for well-known New England Angus breeder, James Harris, of Abington Station, Bundarra.

Other significant bull buyers included Karen Arnott of Skagway Angus, Carrabubula; Heroic Pastoral Company, Ellerston; Comber Partnership, Ryleston; the Meyn Family, Singleton; The Pointing Family Trust, Walcha; Hannaford Stock and Land, Gloucester; Rod Kater, Bonnington Allynbrook; Tom and George Peterkin, Macksville; and Ed and Tina Robinson, Gloucester.

The sale held at the stud’s selling complex, “Under Wycombe” Dungog, was conducted by Elders with Paul Dooley in the rostrum.
