FOLLOWING the successful female herd dispersal in May, the Forres Angus stud's penultimate bull sale at Dungog last Friday fittingly set a new record stud average of $5725 for stud principals, Jon and Chris Erby.

While the top price hit a modest $8000 four times, solid bidding throughout the catalogue of 51 bulls saw 49 sell at auction, with the remaining bulls selling post-sale.

The first three sale lots all sold at the $8000 top price, with Richard Hill, "Eagleview", Roslyn, taking the first and third lots.

Forrest Euston E53, by Banquet Abode A005 (AI) and from Forres Burnette Z30 (AI)(ET), weighed 862 kilograms with a 46 centimetre scrotal circumference, was in the top 10 per cent for 600-day weight and had been used in the Forres joining program.

Forres Edgewater E55 (AI)(ET), by SAV 5175 Bando 0699 and from Te Mania Lowan M118 (AI)(ET), weighed 850kg with a 45cm scrotal and was in the top 10pc for eye muscle area (EMA).

River Flat Produce, Wallarobba, paid $8000 for the 858kg Forres Egan E83, by Banquet Abode A005 (AI) and from Forres Wilcoola A1 (AI)(ET), and in the top five per cent for 600-day weight, and the top 10pc for 400-day weight, carcase weight and terminal index.

E.F. and H.J. Waters, "The Range", Enmore via Uralla, rounded out the top-priced bulls with Forres Earnshaw E66 (AI), a 796kg son of Raff Midland Z204 (AI)(ET) from Forres Ester A87 (AI)(ET), and in the top one per cent for rump fat, top five per cent rib fat and top 10pc EMA and intramuscular fat.

The sale featured 16 sons of the Banquet Abode A005 (AI) sire which averaged $5959.

Abode was purchased by Forres for $20,000 in 2007 at the Banquet Angus sale,Mortlake,Victoria, and sold back to the Branson family's stud as a sixyear- old sire at the female dispersal in May for $22,000.

Six sons of US sire, Leachman Boom Time, averaged $6083, while five sons of Raff Midland Z204 (AI)(ET) averaged $6300.

Stud buyers were present with Kinloch Angus, Perth, Tasmania, taking yearling bull, Forres Finlay F37, by Abode from Lochton Dir Wilcoola Z36 (AI)(ET), for $6500, and Urban Angus, Girvan, paying $7000 for Forres Nebraska E134 (AI)(ET), by Baldridge Nebraska E134 (AI)(ET) and from Forres Doris X95 (AI)(ET).

Volume buyers were Bonnington Beef, Allynbrook, who took four bulls to $7000, averaging $5250, and Elders Walcha, which took four to $6500 to average $5750.

Wood Grazing, Goodooga, took three to $7000, averaging $6000, while G. J. O'Brien, "Nierbo Plains", Lightning Ridge, took three at $4000 apiece.

Principal, Jon Erby, said it was great to see a solid line of bulls sold so well, and was pleased with the result, particularly the record stud average. The sale was conducted by Elders, with Andy McGeoch on the rostrum.
