Females
The Forres Females and their Families
It has often been said "Behind every successful man there is a woman" – and where in life could this statement be more relevant than in a cattle breeding herd. The Forres females have been developed and continuously improved over a period of thirty-nine years, by using the very best genetics available from Australia and overseas.
THE BURNETTE FAMILY
The foundation females of this famous family of females date back to the Raff foundation stock which included four aged cows from the Sarum Stud, in particular Sarum Burnette 10th thus beginning the legendary Forres Burnette family, which has in turn produced two of the most famous cows in the Angus breed in Australia, Forres Burnette A22 and her daughter, Forres Burnette C60. The majority of the Burnettes in the sale are descendants of these two outstanding individuals.
The Burnette family has an enviable reputation in the show ring, their quality performance, eye appeal and style make them standout. Burnette cows are renowned for their femininity and quiet temperament. They are good breeders, being very fertile and are good milkers that rear their calves well.
THE DORIS FAMILY
The foundation females of this now famous family date back to the Raff’s purchase in 1965 of Sarum Doris 19th by Bruce 36th Mangatoro (NZ).
This family is renowned for its consistence in producing big strong bull and high performing females. The calves of the Doris females tend to be the heaviest calves at weaning.
The matriarchs of the modern family are Forres Doris X95 (by SS Traveler 6807 T510 out of Forres Doris V53) whose only bull calf sold for $6000 in 2008 and Forres Doris A108 (by Connealy Freightliner out of Forres Doris P73), both wonderfully feminine and maternal cows.
THE ROYAL LINE FAMILY
The Royal-Line family is our own sub-set of the Dandloo family. At the NEAB Female Sale in 2001, we purchased from Stephen Chase, Waitara Tootsie T1 (a three year old daughter of DAR New Trend 315 out of Royal-Line Dandloo N32, a daughter of Te Mania Dandloo J34) together with her heifer calf by JLB Exacto, Waitara Ex Tootsie W25. We decided to name the subsequent progeny of these two outstanding females “Royal-Line” as it more truly reflected their lineage
Waitara Tootsie T1 proved to be a magnificent donor in our ET program, as have many of her daughters, who have all inherited the matriarch’s great maternal characteristics. The first seventy lots in this sale are the direct descendants of that great cow.
THE WILCOOLA FAMILY
The Wilcoola family was introduced to the Forres herd in 1998 with a frozen embryo package of the mating of B/R New Design 323 and Merribrook Wilcoola N8 but unfortunately only one heifer was produced from this package.
At the Lochton dispersal in November 2004, we were able to re-introduce this family with the purchase of Ardrossan Wilcoola U50 and Ardrossan Wilcoola U59, together with two embryo packages out of Merridale Wilcoola S198. The Wilcoola family are consistent breeders of feminine, milky, correct cattle with great temperament. They are great flushers and the name Wilcoola has become very famous in most states of Australia.
THE LOWAN FAMILY
At the Alliance sale in November 2004, we purchased the magnificent Te Mania Lowan M118, by Scotchcap out of Te Mania Lowan D51, who was then owned jointly by the Ardrossan and Vermont Angus studs. She was a cow with an awesome reputation, having performed so well in many leading studs throughout the country, with her progeny always in great demand and her eighteen Forres daughters and fourteen Forres granddaughters and one Forres great granddaughter are no exception.
THE JEDDA FAMILY
In 1994 we attended the Abbaringa Angus dispersal sale with the sole intention of purchasing Te Mania Jedda J49 (AI)(ET), a truly magnificent daughter of Burthlene Patriot, who was to have a significant impact on the Forres herd. In 1995 and 1996 we flushed her with great success. The flush to VDAR New Trend 315 only produced one daughter, but this daughter, Forres Jedda Q124, was to have a profound effect on the Forres herd.
Today’s Forres Jedda family are all descendants of Forres Jedda Q124, and are highly productive females with outstanding maternal traits.
THE ESTER FAMILY
At the Merrigrange “Mother of all Sales” in 1996, we purchased in partnership with St Pauls Angus, two cows from the very famous Merrigrange Ester family, Merrigrange Ester G125 and Merrigrange Ester M232. Phill Collins in his sale notes said “ Esters are good, thick, easy doing, correct cattle, excellent breeders with plenty of growth which has been bred through generations” .Merrigrange Ester M232, a Power Pack Scotch Cap 889 daughter, was to have the more significant effect on the Forres herd. The majority of the Ester cows in the Forres herd today are descendants of that highly maternal matriarch.
THE BRAE FAMILY
Based on the purchase of two Ythanbrae cows and an embryo package purchased at the Lochton dispersal in November 2004, this family now consists of eighteen females and represents the progeny of Ythanbrae New Design 036 V18, Ythanbrae New Design 036 V56 and Ythanbrae New Design 036 V803.
Ythanbrae New Design 036 V56 has been a most rewarding donor cow producing some outstanding sons and very feminine, fertile daughters.
THE IRIS FAMILY
The introduction of the Iris family to the Forres herd began with the purchase of St Pauls Iris Y216 (a B/R New Dimension 7127 cow out of St Pauls Iris Papa T23) from Bill Cornell, St Pauls Angus, in 2004. She is followed in the sale by nine daughters and two grand-daughters and a package of three embryos from her outstanding daughter Forres Iris E33.
THE FRANCHITA FAMILY
A small family of nine lots descended from Strathewen Trump T17 (the grand-daughter of Glen Arm Quita Q26 who in turn is the daughter of Glen Arm Franchita M43 and by B/R New Design 323). Strathewen Trump 17 was purchased in November 2004 at the Lochton dispersal sale, together with a heifer calf, Lochton White Trump Z102, at foot. She was flushed twice, once to BT Ultravox and once to Mytty in Focus predominantly producing big strong bulls, which sold very successfully at our annual sales. Full flush brothers to her daughter Forres Franchita B142 have sold for an average of $5,500.
THE QUITA FAMILY
The three members of this family are the result of embryo packages purchased at the Lochton Dispersal in November 2004 by Ythanbrae Henry 8th and by B/R New Design 036 out of Glen Arm Quita Q26, the grand-dam of the previous family. Once again this family has predominantly produced males.
THE RIPPONLEA FAMILY
The sole representative of this family, Ardrossan Ripponlea Y79 was purchased at the Alliance Female Sale in November 2004. She has consistently bred each year, with her sons averaging $7,500 to a top of $10,000 (Forres Abode D55 in 2010)
THE MILDRED FAMILY
Another small family based on the progeny of St Pauls Mildred Y221 (by B/R New Dimension 7127 out of St Pauls Mildred M1) purchased from St Pauls Angus in 2004. She and her daughters have predominantly produced bull calves
THE JETS PAGENT FAMILY
The Jets Pagent family was introduced in 1997 as the result of two frozen embryo packages, the matings of TC Stockman 365 to two flush sisters, St Pauls Jets Pagent P14 and St Pauls Jets Princess P10, (the daughters of GT Jet Max and Willow Fields Laura L3).
THE DANDLOO FAMILY
The Dandloo cow family has always performed extremely well for a number of studs throughout Australia. It has been a cow family we have always held in high regard.
At the Calleen Dispersal sale in 1995, we fortunate enough to purchase a package of three frozen embryos of the mating of Summitcrest Power Play MO32 and Te Mania Dandloo G4. The purchase resulted in two outstanding cows, Forres Dandloo R34and Forres Dandloo R35, both of whom were to make a significant impact on the Forres herd, the current Forres Dandloo family being descended from Forres Dandloo R34.
THE DESIGNER FAMILY
In June 2006, in conjunction with Knowla Angus, we conducted a flush of Knowla Designer V96 joined to Ardrossan Admiral A2. Our share of the flush resulted in two absolutely magnificent bull calves but only one heifer, Forres Designer C3 who is for sale together with her daughter and three embryo packages.
THE RUTH FAMILY
The Ruth family was introduced with the purchase of St Paul Ruth Y218 (by Alberda Traveler 416 out of St Pauls Ruth Design U37) in November 2004. This cow has produced some amazing cattle for Forres, not the least being her eighteen-month bull calf, Forres Benaud B1, by Mytty in Focus, sold for a Forres record of $20,000 in 2007.
THE DAPHNE FAMILY
What to call a sweet young heifer, born to an APR heifer in February 2011, and whose grand-dam had no family name?
When we asked Richie Benaud’s permission to call a bull, Forres Benaud, he agreed and added should we ever need to name a heifer, he highly recommended the name “Daphne” after his wife. Therefore, as this young calf is by Forres Benaud B1, we have named her Forres Daphne G8, and we wish her a productive future.
THE TELLTALE FAMILY
This family was introduced to the Forres herd in April 2001 with the purchase of Wallaroy Telltale T148 with a bull calf at foot, from Ed and Elaine Blackadder. Andy McGeoch purchased this daughter of Lucy’s Boy on our behalf, for her very high carcase EBVs.
